The Outback SW

The Needles of Rushmore

TRADITIONAL

Description: The following routes are some of the most remote routes in South Dakota, located in the middle of the Black Elk Wilderness. They are relics of the Conns and are products of old jeep trails in the once unrestricted wilderness. Approach: Start on Horsethief Lake Trail #14 and follow for 0.61 miles past the closed trail intersection/corridor to the Centennial Trail #89 intersection. Take a right and proceed up hill on Horsethief Lake Trail #14/Centennial Trail #89, staying left at the next intersection 400 feet up the slope. From the Trail #89 and Trail #14 intersection, proceed on the trail approximately 1.14 miles until the trail decisively turns from SW to SE, away from the creek (N 43.868445° W 103.488717°).
