Magna Carta is comprised of the two formally independent areas or granite groups; Monster to the N, & Marker to the S. The area was consolidated in hopes of eliminating confusion as both groups share parking and common geographic features and locations. From the entrance of Mt Rushmore National Park, continue NW on SD HWY 244 for 1.2 miles to the parking pullout on the SW side of the highway. It is abeam the large towering walls of the fittingly named Monster formation. Park at the pullouts (30 secs/ 135’) From the trailhead, head NE across the road and 135’ down to the climbers’ kiosk / sign-in register. The kiosk is located below the Monster conglomerate and at the mouth of the major gully that is known as the National Mall. It is also just SW of the route Valhalla for reference.
