Isolation Peak

Rocky Mountain National Park

ALPINE

Isolation Peak straddles the Continental Divide some 1.3 miles north of Ouzel Peak and can be seen to have three summits aligned on an east-west axis. The east summit is the highest. This great peak presides over four drainages. The precipitous north face reigns over Fifth Lake at the head of East Inlet and the clandestine valley of Paradise Park lies to the south and west. The broad east face towers above Eagles Beak, Mahana Peak, and the drainages of the Moomaw Glacier and Ouzel Creek. Isolation Peak, worthy of its name, is a grand objective for the well-conditioned peak bagger. In addition, an excellent east-side circuit is to ascend the North Ridge route from Thunder Lake and Boulder-Grand Pass, then descend Southeast Slope and return via the Bluebird Lake Trail. A similar circuit can be made from East Inlet (west-side) via the North Ridge and West Ridge routes. Approach: Approaches are described for each route.
