Mourning Glory Wall

United States | Tunnel Five | Rock Climbing Clear Creek

SPORT

Mourning Glory is a newer wall that holds one of the hardest Front Range test pieces, Mourning Glory (5.14c). Originally developed by Darren Mabe and his futuristic vision for hard lines. By finding Mourning Glory, he set a new standard for hard climbing in Clear Creek Canyon. This wall is situated high in the canyon and offers some amazing exposure for single pitch sport climbs. The wall is west-facing and gets morning shade. Approach:Since the formation of the Peaks to Plains Trail, the old approach has been blocked off with “no access” signs. Climbers and fishermen still go past these signs to access the trail and the creek, however, the only permitted way to get to the wall is by parking in the new Tunnel 5 parking area, just west of tunnel 5 on the south side of the road, and taking a pleasant stroll down the Peaks to Plains trail East/downstream about a half mile to get to the wall. Hike uphill via a few switchbacks and slanting to the right as you wrap around the hillside. This will bring you to the base of the left hand side of the cliff and Sweet Tides.
