McGillivary Canyon

Canada | The Bow Valley | Bow Valley Select Sport Climbing and Bouldering

SPORT

An interesting canyon that has seen sporadic attention over the years and just recently a good surge of development at The Alumni Wall. Although the canyon can stay fairly moist after a rainfall the two prominent sectors are worth the visit even if only to see the futuristic appeal of the University Wall.

10 min drive from Canmore. Drive towards Calgary, go passed Deadman's for about 2-3 min. The parking lot is beside a red sign with a flower on the right side.

From the McGillvary parking lot walk straight up the trail. Once you see the camera turn right. Keep walking for about 200m, then you will see a sign that says park border.

Turn left here and walk on this trail for approx 5 min. Once you reach the canyon turn left up the hill. Walk up two significant hills and then continue along the trail, then the trail will start to go down into the canyon. Once you are in the canyon walk for about 10-15 minutes. You will see university wall(a large blank wall) on your left. Walk up another 100m and Alumni wall will be on the right.
